Our Story
EWASA Academy was established to help close critical skills gaps in the waste management and recycling sector. As South Africa’s green economy grows, so does the need for training that is practical, relevant, and aligned with the country’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) environment. The Academy responds to that need by preparing learners with the knowledge, technical skills, and confidence required to participate meaningfully in sustainable waste management and circular economy systems.
The EWASA Academy is responsible for training and skills development, working in conjunction with the EPR Waste Association of South Africa (eWASA). We exist to deliver structured, practical, and accredited learning opportunities for waste handlers, recycling SMMEs, and professionals working across South Africa’s evolving waste economy. Our work supports learners and organisations involved in e-waste, electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), lighting, portable batteries, paper and packaging, and lubricant oils.

Our training approach is grounded in real-world application. Through partnerships with organisations such as RADtech (Pty) Ltd, eWASA has already delivered practical training initiatives, including two-day dismantling workshops for SMME trainees from the City of Johannesburg’s Pikitup. These experiences have helped shape the Academy into a credible, action-oriented platform for workforce development and sector growth.
Our Relationship with eWASA
While the Academy stands as a distinct training brand, it remains rooted in eWASA’s mission to support responsible waste management and strengthen the systems, people, and organisations that drive the sector forward.
The EWASA Academy operates under the umbrella of the EPR Waste Association of South Africa, drawing on eWASA’s authority, sector leadership, and regulatory relevance. This relationship ensures that the Academy is not only a training provider, but also a trusted institution connected to the broader goals of environmental responsibility, EPR compliance, and sustainable industry development in South Africa.
Why the EWASA Academy Matters
South Africa’s waste sector is changing. New regulatory demands, sustainability priorities, and circular economy opportunities require a workforce that is informed, skilled, and ready to act. eWASA Academy exists to help meet that need — connecting education to impact, and training to real economic and environmental progress.
