{"id":450,"date":"2026-07-13T11:32:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T09:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.ewasaacademy.co.za\/?page_id=450"},"modified":"2026-07-28T12:16:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T10:16:52","slug":"e-waste-for-youth-employment-in-limpopo","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/staging.ewasaacademy.co.za\/index.php\/ewasa-academy-programmes\/e-waste-for-youth-employment-in-limpopo\/","title":{"rendered":"E-Waste for Youth Employment in Limpopo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turning e-waste into skills, businesses and green jobs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The E-Waste for Youth Employment Project equipped young people in Limpopo with practical recycling, safety and entrepreneurship skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The International Labour Organization implemented the project with funding from the Government of Japan. eWASA supported the programme through technical training, industry exposure and connections to South Africa\u2019s formal e-waste value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the programme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project addressed two major challenges: youth unemployment and the unsafe disposal of electronic waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It trained <strong>22 young people<\/strong>, including women and persons with disabilities, to participate in the circular economy as skilled workers and entrepreneurs. The broader programme also strengthened the capacity of TVET institutions to support future e-waste training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center is-image-fill-element\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 33%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What participants learned<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants received classroom, practical and workplace-based training covering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Safe e-waste handling and dismantling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Correct use of tools and personal protective equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sorting and separating recoverable materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safe storage and workplace housekeeping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E-waste legislation and compliance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business planning, costing and customer development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opportunities in collection, repair, refurbishment and recycling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Practical training and recycler site visits helped participants understand how formal e-waste facilities manage materials, safety, traceability and downstream markets.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.ewasaacademy.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG-20251015-WA0002-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-452 size-full\" style=\"object-position:45% 49%\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.ewasaacademy.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG-20251015-WA0002-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/staging.ewasaacademy.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG-20251015-WA0002-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/staging.ewasaacademy.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG-20251015-WA0002.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From training to enterprise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme combined technical skills with the ILO\u2019s Start and Improve Your Business training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants explored viable business opportunities, developed business plans and built relationships with recyclers and other stakeholders.
